Cry me a river

Hi, everyone!
Would somebody know what the phrase "cry me a river" means? I don't mean the original one (being used so very often for love song titles, lyrics, etc.), but rather the one being used in a more sarcastic way, i.e. "You said it was easy to do that kind of thing. Now you see it isn't, mate." "Yeah, cry me a river. I thought so because I had no foggiest idea at that time."
Your clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.
