: : Debit/Credit WITH or FOR?

: : How is correct?
: : We debit/credit your account FOR or WITH the ammount?

: : Is it more correct: We ARE debitING/creditING your account....

: : Thanks in advance..

: I'll go out on a limb and say this one sounds right: "We debit your account *in* the amount of..." although I can't say exactly why I think it's right.

Having spent some time at both CitiBank and Chase Manhattan (US), we were trained to say: "We are crediting/debiting your account in the amount of $1,000" More often than not, however, we used to say: "We are crediting/debiting your account for $1,000." I believe the use of 'in the amount of' is really the correct one.
