: : what can a *hand motion* mean?
: : thank you
: A gesture.
More specifically, a *hand motion* is a type of gesture used in certain dances or when singing certain songs. Many children's songs use hand gestures as a way of getting kids involved who may be reluctant to actually sing. For example, when you're at a party and they play the Chicken Dance, you hold both hands above your head, keeping the four fingers on each hand together, and click them against your thumbs, mimicking the motion of a chicken's beak.
