Often it was used as "I'll bet you twenty four eighty" There appeared to be no context comment in the film. I thought it must have been a term from the time period.

That is possible. I will need to look back at the movie to look at the other uses of the phrase to be sure. That certianly didnt come to mind when I was watching it the first time.
