: Hi,

: Could anyone help me with the sentence in brackets? I don't quite understand.

:
: There are informational uses of televisual news for the viewers, particularly in their roles as consumer, employee, and, above all, as citizen and voter. Here Jensen discerns (a tension in the interview material from his respondents between 'the active and public uses that are associated with the news genre in a political perspective and .. its more limited practical relevance for audiences in terms of "keeping up" with issues for the purpose of conversation or voting in political elections.')

: Thanks a lot.

This is quite difficult to interpret. I think Jensen finds that people think it is difficult to keep apart the two roles of the media; to report news in broad terms of politics and also to report activities in terms of party politics.
