This is one of those phrases where I wish someone had consulted me, because I would've suggested "playin' it Cagney" for James Cagney's memorable bad guy roles in White Heat, Angels with Dirty Faces, and others. Bogart played too many reluctant heroes, in my opinion, to warrant use of his name in this context.
