Yes. Nest question. Well, I don't know the origin. I've seen it listed as a proverb. Presumably its present popularity owes a lot to the fact that Ringo Starr came out with an album with this title in 1981. The recording of it was finished in 1980, and the song "Stop and smell the roses" was donated to Starr by Harry Nilsson. But where he got the words of the title I do not know. Probably a good search would reveal that it has been around a century or two, but I never saw the phrase before Ringo's record. SS
