Jove

The phrase "Even Jove nods," meaning, more or less, "Everyone makes mistakes," is well-known. But I can find no hint of its origin. The classic Roman writer Horace said, more or less, "Even great Homer nods," but who upped the ante to Jove I just dunno. Any ideas?

The common phrase is "even Homer nods," and I don't know if I'd want to risk thunderbolt retribution by dissing Jove. Haven't heard it.
