: Can anybody tell me the meaning of the phrase shooting the breeze? Thanks.

It means to sit with a friend or family member and just chat, usually about nothing as in:

"Charlie, Billy and I just sat around and shot the breeze for an hour or so and then I came home, turned on the tube and feel asleep".
