Just my opinion but it sounds like the phrases/expressions:
Cutting your nose to spite your face
or
Spitting in the wind

Those phrases show behaviors that are doing something that will only come back to hurt YOU and not the intended.

Resentments can be like that.
Carrying a resentment towards someone is like taking poison and expecting your boss ( or wife or kid or ex-wife or next door neighbor ) to get sick from the poison. The person to whom the resentment is aimed does not ever know about the resentment and you are the only one who gets sick from the poison.
