: : : : Could any one tell me the meaning of the quote "You're gonna need a bigger boat" and the in what context people use this now.

: : : It's from the movie, "Jaws." I will go google to be more precise. The sheriff character got an up close look at the shark they were pursuing and said to the others on board, "You're going to need a bigger boat." The humor was in the understatement.

: : "Jaws" . Brody was throwing fish guts, etc., in the water to attract the shark. The shark obliged by sticking its big head out of the water. The other two guys on board didn't see it. So...

: : Police Chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider): You're gonna need a bigger boat.

: : I don't know what context the expression is used now. I've never heard anyone say it except in reference to the movie.

I've seen or heard a few jokes employing the phrase, many referring to Noah and some very large animal (or addition to his human family), always seeming to imply familiarity with the phrase by way of the movie. The phrase occurs once in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (in reference to a giant snake), a series in which a huge number of phrases from the movies have an echo. SS
