: Hello,
: In Tuchman's book "Stilwell" it says that stilwell participated in West Point cross-country team. I understand that it's a kind of sport you do outside in the fields etc., but is it skiing? running? driving? I mean, is it possible to know that from the west Point context?
: Thanks

In the States cross-country is run in the Fall and is generally considered an alternative for those who want to participate in a Fall sport that's not football (US). The cross country team runs mostly on a course laid out on local roads, as opposed to the track team which runs on a track (duh). The kids who run cross country usually are the same ones who run middle to long distance track events.
