: : Since when do we say don't tell me......when we mean -- tell me more.
: Who's the "we" who says that? I don't. When I say "don't tell me", it's when I'm trying to find a word that's "on the tip of my tongue" and I want the satisfaction of thinking of it myself.
It can also mean... don't tell me because I know already.
"When we went over the exams yesterday someone hadn't filled out his name It turned out to be..."
"Don't tell me! It was Daniel, wasn't it? He did this on the last three examinations."
