: In England, it means that it was enthusiastically received. Remember that in England , to go down a bomb also means a great success; in America, I believe that something that bombs is a complete failure.

But these days, if something is "da bomb", it's phat (i.e., great and cool). I think it's now in wide use in the English-speaking world.
