: What does "schneid" mean here?
:
: "Either Kentucky or South Carolina will get off the Southeastern Conference schneid today. The only winless teams in SEC play meet at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Center at Columbia, S.C." From the Herald-Leader, Lexington, Ky., January 25, 2004, from "Pfeiffer will be missed..."

It's a term from gin rummy (didn't we discuss this before?) where one is scoreless and in danger of a serious penalty (it varies, but it's usually double.) When you finally win one hand, you reduce your vulnerability. These two teams were both winless in their conference, and in meeting, one of them was going to get off the schneid.
