: I heard a phrase yesterday that went something like "the gods grind their stones slowly but fine" (something like that). Anyone know what I'm talking about? And what does it mean?

AUTHOR: Friedrich, Freiherr von Logau (1604-1655)
QUOTATION: Though the mills of God grind slowly, yet they grind exceeding small;
Though with patience He stands waiting, with exactness grinds He all.
ATTRIBUTION: Retribution. (Sinngedichte.)
BIOGRAPHY: Columbia Encyclopedia.

Sometimes translated as "they grind exceeding fine." Roughly, although we mere mortals may lose patience with the process, God will, in the long run, take care of everything. Usually meaning, the apparent injustice of the world (how can OJ have gotten away with it?) will eventually be made right, because God will exercise his or her will.
