: I would like to know if someone could define the phrase "Foot in Mouth" and its origin.

"Foot in mouth" means saying something really inappropriate -- saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. I haven't found its origin. I did find a reference to a pun -- foot in mouth disease -- a play on "foot in mouth" and "hoof and mouth disease." That reference said "foot in mouth" is an old saying. I'll post again if I find something more definitive.
