Bridge and Tunnel

while reading an article about Demonstration of Extended Massive Orgasm (yeah yeah) I came across the expression "Bridge and Tunnel" in the desription of a couple who attended a N.Y session on the above subject.

"...two couples sitting in front of me - one sixty-something, the other fortyish and very Bridge and Tunnel. "

Is it some sort of geographical hint indicating that they came from somewhere outside of Manhattan or ...?
I triewd looking it up on AltaVista and came up with Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and the like. Not very enlightning...
