: : Anyone heard the phrase "Going to get your/my ears lowered", meaning "to get a haircut." I haven't heard it in 40 years. It was relatively common in Southern Maine.

:
: Haven't heard it in 40 years? You're lucky! It was pretty common here in New Jersey during the same time frame. I'll say I last heard it in the early 80's, and that the use of the phrase marks one as possessing an old-fashioned (i.e., corny) sense of humor.

: A similar joke was:
: Q: "D'ya get a haircut?"
: A: "No, I got 'em *all* cut!"

You are clearly fortunate. I heard it the last time I got my hair cut.
