: Anyone heard the phrase "Going to get your/my ears lowered", meaning "to get a haircut." I haven't heard it in 40 years. It was relatively common in Southern Maine.

Haven't heard it in 40 years? You're lucky! It was pretty common here in New Jersey during the same time frame. I'll say I last heard it in the early 80's, and that the use of the phrase marks one as possessing an old-fashioned (i.e., corny) sense of humor.

A similar joke was:
Q: "D'ya get a haircut?"
A: "No, I got 'em *all* cut!"
