: "God's tithe and our offerings". This stock phrase is solemnly intoned verbatim at Protestant churches of every variety as if it were from some ancient authority, but does anyone know where it originated?

Presumably from the Book of Malachi 3.8: "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings." (VSD)
