Gumperson's Law

Posted by Traindriver on December 23, 2010 at 20:01

Regarding Gumperson's Law. I recall reading about Mr. Gumperson in the book The Peter Principle. As I recall, Mr. Gumperson of Iowa was out walking with his dog after evening chores. He was walking on the left side of the road so as to see oncoming traffic. Unbeknownst to Mr. Gumperson was an English tourist driving a 1952 MG-TD (In Iowa, no less) on the LEFT side of the road and struck Mr. Gumperson and his dog from behind. Mr. Gumperson was unexpectedly injured and his dog ran away, never to be seen again. Hence: The possibility of an event taking place is inversely proportional to its' desirability. Poor Mr. Gumperson.
