: Wwhere does the phrase 'the Victorian way of death' come from?

In 1963 the upper-class English socialist writer Jessica Mitford wrote an expose of the American funeral industry to which she gave the title "The American Way of Death". This was of course a twist on the everyday phrase "way of life". The book was so successful that it established "The [insert adjective here] way of death" as a catchphrase. (VSD)
