: Does anyone know where any why the word broad is used in the phrase "Broad daylight"?

One of the meanings of "broad" is "wide open, fully expanded", and in this sense the phrase "broad day[light]" has been in use at least since the 14th century. (The French equivalent of "broad daylight" is "grand jour", which literally means "big day" - a very closely allied image.) (VSD)
