Do a John Travolta

Posted by Thomas McCann on April 14, 2010 at 09:35

Quite a new phrase that has been circulating where I live in Castlemilk housing estate in Glasgow for at least ten years that I know is to "Do a John Travolta" rhyming slang for "Bolter" eg, either to get away quickly from a place or situation, also used to express you are ready to go somewhere. "I'm going to do a John Travolta, See you later". I wonder, does this saying have any earlier origins?
