: : Christmas catalogs are beginning to arrive here in the U.S. Among the items available for purchase are a print ($39) and two mugs ($24.95) with the message "Keep Calm and Carry On." "Designed by a now-forgotten British civil servant in 1939, this message was meant to buck up the public if the Nazis crossed the Channel." Or I could get the Official Irish Shamrock Gift Set with official Irish shamrock seeds -- $49.95. Or Christmas Pudding with Brandy Butter -- $39.95. Can't decide. Lending toward the pudding.

: Im too, would lean towards the Christmas pudding, after having discovered that brandy butter is the same as hard sauce. In my part of the U.S.A. no one ever said "brandy butter," the confection was always called hard sauce. My mother used to make it, and it was well liked by all of us. But I haven't heard the word or seen the sauce on any tables in a long, long time.
: SS

In the UK, if you are having Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, brandy butter has to be there. I can't recall a Christmas without it.
