: Hi. Does anyone know approximately when the phrases 'playing hard to get' and 'time to market' were coined?
I couldn't find "play hard to get" in the youth slang books that I have. One reference says "play hard to get," meaning "usu. of a woman, to resist sexual advances, though not necessarily to reject them altogether" originated in "1920s+." "Cassell's Dictionary of Slang" by Jonathon Green (Wellington House, London, 1998). Page 927.
