A face like a chewed toffee
Where does this saying originate? - 'Face like a chewed caramel'
at school, 25 years plus ago, I first heard the description 'a face like a chewed toffee'
it may have started out as 'a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp'
in "Carry on Loving" I think Hattie Jaques describes Sid James as having the appearance of a 'dessicated walnut' - rather good one from Talbot Rothwell, if so.
