Mother dog

: Anybody heard the expression "mother dog"? I have only seen this in one of James Ellroy's books, "Hollywood Nocturnes" short stories. It is used by an LAPD detective at the end of half of his sentences and obviously in place of bitch. Since I grew up in LA close to the same time as Ellroy and never heard it that I recall, I'm wondering if was just an uncommon phrase or completely from Ellroy's imagination.

I've never heard it in my part of the United States.
