: Meaning of "mad dogs" in Noel Coward's song "Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun".

: Is it a literal meaning? Or do these "mad dogs" have some idiomatic meaning like "mad people" or something else?
: Thank you for any help.

We have had that one a few times before - search for 'mad dogs' in this site's search box. The mad dogs are literal. Coward's splendid lyric, like many of his, uses ingenious rhyming.
