: : Have you ever heard of the saying "if life gives you lemons you suck them"?
: : I thought it was funny at first like a mockery of the original saying "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade." But it actually makes sense, instead of changing things into something that may seem better, take a bite out of what life gives you, face things even if they might not taste great. Far fetched?
: Don't change it, embrace it?
Another interpretation: to say that someone "has been sucking lemons" (or "looks like he's been sucking lemons") means he's giving sour looks, bad attitude, spreading discontent, etc. (And to say it directly to the sour-looker --- "You look like you're sucking lemons" --- is both awfully nervy and unlikely to improve matters.) If this is the lineage of the o.p.'s phrase, "when life hands you lemons you suck them" might mean "you never pass up an opportunity for unhappiness". - Bac.
