When you feel sorry for yourself, you're thinking about how bad your situation is. You're unhappy. Being sorry for someone else means pitying the person. (This is a different meaning of "sorry" from the meaning that's connected with regret and apologies.) Being sorry for yourself is the same thing, except that it's directed inward toward yourself, not outward toward another person. ~rb
