: : : I would like to know the meaning of the following - "A dog doesn't question why he barks"

: :
: : :a nice phrase, never heard it before, but sadly very untrue.I think we have dogs precicely because they know there is something afoot.

: Nor have I heard the phrase used. I would imagine that it means something like, "A dog barks because it's a dog. Sometimes it doesn't pay to micro-analyze." This might be a place for the fable (not by Aesop) about the frog and the scorpion. The scorpion wants to get across the creek, and asks the frog for a ride. The frog says, "Why should I do that? You'll just sting me, and we'll both die." The scorpion replies, "That's exactly why you can trust me. I can't sting you without harm to myself. So how about that ride?" So the frog starts to swim across the creek with the scorpion on his back. But midstream the scorpion stings the frog, who says, "Why did you do that? Now we'll both die!" "Yes," says the scorpion, "but I had to sting you. It is my nature."

:and that is why we have dogs rather than scorpions!
