Run the gauntlet

Posted by Donaldson M. Garschagen on August 27, 2007

Re this week's phrase -- Run the gauntlet -- I'd like to comment that in Brazil we say, in the same sense, "passar por um corredor polones", which translates as "to pass through a Polish corridor". The phrase is a clear reference to the strip of land assigned to Poland by the Treaty of Versailles, separating the German territories of Polerania and East Prussia. Is this phrase used elsewhere?
