: My granddad, who was from Herefordshire but moved as far as Worcestershire during his life, used the expression "by strike", or at least something that sounded like that, when he wanted to strengthen a point he had made. I still have no idea where the expression came from. Anyone know?

Could it have been a local or personal version of "by crikey," a minced oath to suggest "by Christ" without saying it outright? ~rb
