: Today is 4th July. It got me thinking about the song "I'm a Yankee-doodle dandy" and the phrase in one line "I came to London just to ride the ponies". What on earth does that mean?

Now I'm interested. While I wait for nightfall and my neighbors running amok with firecrackers, I will research.
