: : What does "you're too hard on yourself" mean?

: You are too critical of yourself. Set standards for yourself that are too high.

I'd like to propose a small revision of ESC's post, since I don't think it's entirely clear that she has offered two meanings. Read the second sentence as "Or you set standards for yourself..."

Otherwise said, in being critical of yourself you can be too harsh or severe a critic. Or you may set standards for yourself that are too hard (difficult) to accomplish. I hope this accords with ESC's meaning. If it does not, please set us straight, ESC.
