Not sure that this is the reason, but Moses certainly didn't set any speed records. After killing the Egyption taskmaster, Moses spent 40 years tending sheep in Midian before returning to Egypt. After freeing the slaves from Egypt, Moses led them to the promised land of Canaan. It was another 40 years before they actually entered Canaan. As the crow flies, that's around 250 miles in 480 months which gives us an average speed of 92 feet per day.
