: P*SS LIKE A RACEHORSE - "Why do people say, 'I have to p*ss like a racehorse'?...In adult humans, the average urine production is 1 to 2 liters per day. Normal urination for a 1,000-pound horse is about 1 to 2 gallons a day. And then there's the horse's famously forceful urinary stream - a torrent that could blast rioting demonstrators against a wall! But this saying may actually have gained currency as the result of the widespread practice of giving racehorses a drug called furosemide prior to a race.horses given furosemide lose about twenty pounds of their pre-race body weight through urination. And, at the track, lighter means faster." This practice is "chemical cheating." From "Why Do Men Fall Asleep After Sex? More Questions You'd Only Ask a Doctor After Your Third Whiskey Sour" by Mark Leyner and Billy Goldberg, M.D., Three Rivers Press, New York, 2006. Page 74-75. These guys are also the authors of "Why Do Men Have Nipples? Hundreds of Questions you'd Only Ask a Doctor After Your Third Martini." Back to the phrase - the version I've heard is "p*ss like a pack mule." Alliteration at work there, I guess. Either way, as someone raised on a farm who now lives in horse country, the phrase was not a mystery to me. But I thought I'd share in case anyone else was puzzled.

: PS -- The phrase isn't used in polite company.

Well, what's polite company these days? Your post was interesting, and now I know why my doctor prescribed furosemide for me. Actually it's just one of many diuretics prescribed for humans, and horses, but a bit on the strong side.
