A number of people, mostly political conservatives, many of whom are also religious conservatives, have quoted this saying, often exactly as Riverbrat has reported it, on various bulletin boards sampled by Google. Sometimes the last phrase is replaced by something else also noting the lack of gratitude by those being given, e.g., an education. To say more than that would be to guess.
