: A music album by an American punk band called the Minutemen was titled "Double Nickels on the Dime". I've always assumed it was a phrase that had some meaning of which I was not aware. However, I've recently tried to find a meaning on the internet and couldn't see anything even close. Maybe it was just a meaningless title the band came up with. I'd like to know if it has some wider meaning.

"Double Nickels" is a slang reference to a 55 miles per hour speed limit. The "dime" refers to Interstate Highway 10, a route that runs across the southern U.S., including San Pedro, the home town of the band's lead singer.
