There was a passing fad in the '70s where a conversational lull between two men was bridged with "How 'bout them (fill in local sports team name)?" accompanied by a gesture that mimed the opening of a beer can, with a "whoosh" sound effect to simulate same. It wouldn't have the same effect if the grammar was correct, so it never was.
