: Looking for the meaning and origin of the phrase 86'd. It is used in the restaurant business when specials are sold out. I have also seen it used in less than tasteful terms of some one's/thing's life coming to an end. Does it relate to the year 1886 and some gold rush rushing to an end? Thanks.
