: : : Has anyone heard the phrase 'in the chair'? I was told I was to be 'in the chair' tonight as a result of my retirement. Does it relate to drinking heavily or retirement?
: : Nope. Chairman's seat? Rocking chair? Electric chair? Seat of honor?
: Perhaps "in the hot seat" if they are planning the retirement party as a roast.
It means that you will be paying for the drinks.
It is a well-known phrase to Eastpondians.
