: What is the derivation of the phrase: "long tall drink of water"?
If you read or heard this phrase, you presumably read or heard it in a sentence. The rest of the sentence, please.
Whether used figuratively or literally, the drink is not likely to be described as both long and tall. I've heard "she's a long drink of water," or "she's a tall drink of water," used favorably to describe a slender, tall, desirable female. Either that, or I've been misled by my hormones. I think the phrase can also be used of males. SS
