An early dart

: In Liverpool when workers (yes some of us do) when finnishing early on a job its said we will get an early dart. Could this have come from the Irish influence meaning an early train as this is thw name of Dublin's railway the DART.

It's possible, but I suspect not. DART is an acronym for 'Dublin Area Rapid Transport.' I just hope they don't build a similar rail system in Fermoy.

'Dart' means, in this instance, a sudden rapid movement. So, when you finish work early, you dart away while the going is good in case you are called back to do more work.
