: I think there is a phrase that has something to do with "playing the world's smallest violin." I'm not sure exactly how it goes, but I remember seeing it in a Family Guy episode and I had no idea what it meant.
Here's what I think it means. Violin music has typically been used in movies, etc., to indicate that something sad or tragic has happened. Person No. 1 makes a bid for sympathy. Person No. 2 mocks him by rubbing thumb and index finger together and saying, "I'm playing the world's smallest violin."
