: What does this phrase mean? "I dip my pen in the blackest ink, because I am not afraid of falling into my inkpot".
"A just thinker will allow full swing to his skepticism. I dip my pen in the blackest ink, because I am not afraid of falling into my inkpot."
----Ralph Waldo Emerson,The Conduct of Life, 1860
He is saying that we need to grow and this can be accomplished by breaking out of our box and taking some type of risk.
