"Skitch" - meaning to attack, tongue-lash, etc.

Google led me to this site, with a meaning for "skitch" unique to New Zealand. As a small boy I can recall my Grandfather often saying that my Grandmother would "skitch" him for his latest misdemeanour. He was born in New Zealand around 1900, to parents also born in NZ but of English descent, and he grew up in a rural area near New Plymouth, NZ. I have never heard anyone else use the word with this meaning. Can anyone else recall hearing "skitch" used in this way?
