: : In a recent radio interview a US politician suggested that George Bush should "take him [one of his advisers] to the woodshed".

: : What would they be doing there? In the UK woodsheds are just sheds to keep wood in.

: : Gary

: Webster has woodshed as
: "a place, means, or session for administering discipline".

: You can take someone way out back in the woods where woodsheds are usually located and beat the crap out of him with his screams of pain unheard by anyone.

"To Chris Woodhead" is a similar expression - CW had a very senior position in the British Education system. His name inspired fear in teachers and principals alike.
I didn't much care for him myself and I'm not even a teacher.
